Ahumada Jr. kicks off season with pair of feature appearances at Vado

Carlos Ahumada Jr. and his Hacienda Mechanical No. 65x Modified team got off to a strong start in 2024 with A-Main appearances in the opening two rounds of the 18th annual Wild West Shootout.

Sixty stout Modifieds dotted the Vado (N.M.) Speedway Park pit area on Saturday for the first of two $2,000-to-win programs during the weekend. Ahumada won his heat race from the pole and the El Paso, Texas, driver rolled off 14th in the 25-lap feature. He finished in the same position.

On Sunday, 57 Modified drivers made their way to the 3/8-mile oval, where Ahumada again won his heat race after starting from the top spot. He began the main event in 11th and came home with a 12th-place result.

The final four rounds from Vado kick off on Wednesday, January 10.
